A Letter to African Tree Productions from Tribes Project Founder

Dear African Tree Productions:

It will be our honor and privilege to host African Tree Productions to Seattle, USA, this summer: August 15 to September 4, 2014, in order to FINALLY reconnect!

After our incredible experience working together 13 years ago, collaborating on our original play Novaland that performed at many venues in South Africa, (most notably at the 2001 United Nations World Conference Against Racism in Durbin) we look forward to creating more unforgettable memories with you. While much has changed since that time, our mission as a non-profit NGO dedicated to multicultural exploration and representation through the performing arts has remained steadfast. Our resolve to continue what we began with you has not been forgotten.

Now twenty years after the fall of Apartheid, we cannot rest on our laurels, we are all still in constant need of examples of true human interconnectivity – it is time for us to collaborate once again. We will be reciprocating the “get here and we will take care of the rest” partnership established between our companies in 2001. With African Tree shouldering the substantial expense of travel to Seattle, we will cover the cost of arranged home stays, local transportation, and all ancillary production expenses while you are our guests. Just as you did for us so many years ago, we will welcome you into our homes and onto our stages, in an effort to give US audiences the opportunity to experience your extraordinary talents, gifts, and resounding spirit.

Offering Seattle venues our multinational adaptation of the Greek classic The Oresteia, as well as your company’s world traveled and well received production The System, will assuredly garner tremendous interest and support. We intent to not only produce a full performance itinerary, but to also reach out to community organizations in an effort to offer theatre workshops – that will give the African Tree and Tribes Project performers greater opportunity to share and connect with the greater Seattle community at large.

Yours sincerely,
J. Paul Preseault
